The Abbeyfield Hotel is located off the A5 on the outskirts of the city of Bangor, in a region of outstanding natural beauty, with the mountains, lakes and forests of the Snowdonia National Park, as well as Gwynedd's dramatic coastline on its doorstep. Click here for a map.

Bangor itself has been a seat of religion and learning for over 1400 years, a monastery having been founded here in the sixth century on the site of the present cathedral. The tomb of one of Wales' foremost princes, Owain Gwynedd, is to be found in the cathedral while the Roman fort of Segontium, and the medieval castles at Caernarfon, Conwy and Beaumaris are popular attractions.

Today the City of Bangor is an important, rapidly expanding commercial centre. For a community of some 15000 inhabitants, it enjoys a diverse range of shops, restaurants, pubs
and other amenities, whilst its compact size and rural setting leave it free from many of the problems of the larger industrial cities.

The hotel is easily accessible; and only about 90 minutes travelling distance from the M56 motorway, which links with the M6. The M56 and A56 provide a direct link from Manchester
to the A55 coastal expressway, while the A5 is a scenic route through North Wales. Regular fast trains run to Bangor from London Euston, Birmingham New Street and Manchester.

Snowdonia is a beautiful area offering a wide variety of scenery with rugged mountains and peaceful lakes, and is lapped to the North and West by sea.

The visitor with a car can make the Abbeyfield an ideal centre for a wide variety of
excursions to such places as Snowdonia (6 miles), Caernarfon (8 miles), Conwy (13 miles),
Menai Bridge (4 miles), Betws-y-Coed (18 miles) and to many golden beaches all within 15 miles.

For those without transport, an excellent bus service passes within 100 yards of the Abbeyfield and there are frequent buses to all parts of North Wales. The local Rail Station
is Bangor (2 miles) and National Express Coaches stop half a mile from the hotel at Llandegai.
